Case study

Into the top-3 map pack for an Adelaide electrical and air-con trades business

An electrical and air-conditioning trades business servicing Adelaide came to us sitting well outside the map results for the jobs they wanted. Over about six months we reworked how Google read their business, and they climbed into the top three of the local pack for the searches that bring in callouts.

The challenge

Where the client started

This business has two licensed electricians and a small crew covering electrical work and split-system air-conditioning across the Adelaide suburbs. Most of their jobs had always come from past customers and the odd builder referral, which was fine until a quiet summer made them realise how exposed that was.

When a new homeowner near them searched something like electrician Prospect or air conditioning installation Adelaide, three competitors filled the map pack at the top of the results and this business was nowhere in sight. They were buried far enough down the regular listings that almost no one found them, and their Google Business Profile barely registered. The owner could see plenty of searches happening in his area but none of that attention was reaching him.

The profile was the clearest weak spot. It carried a single broad category, listed no specific services, had two photos from years back, and held only six reviews with no recent activity. The business address and phone number were written differently across the few directories they appeared in, which gave Google mixed signals about who they were and where they worked. On top of that, the website was a one-page brochure with no separate pages for the suburbs or the trades they actually covered.

What the owner wanted was simple to say and harder to earn. He wanted to show up in the map pack when nearby people searched for an electrician or an air-con installer, he wanted the phone to ring from those searches, and he wanted more people tapping the directions button and turning up as real jobs.

// Snapshot

  • Trade: electrical and split-system air-con.
  • Market: Adelaide suburbs, small crew.
  • Problem: absent from the map pack.
  • Goal: top-3 local pack and more callouts.
  • Window: roughly six months of work.
What Boltly did

The work, step by step

Local pack ranking comes down to relevance, distance and prominence, so we worked across the profile, the citations and the site together. The profile and review work moved first because those signals tend to show in the map sooner.

Profile categories

We set the right primary category and added secondary ones for electrician and air-conditioning contractor, so the listing could surface for both trades rather than one vague label.

Services and posts

We filled out the services list with the actual jobs they do, switchboard upgrades, safety switches, split-system installs and repairs, and set a regular posting habit to keep the profile active.

Real photos

We loaded fresh photos of completed installs, the team in branded shirts and the work vans, which gave the listing the genuine, current look the map favours over stale profiles.

Review velocity

We built a simple after-job routine that asks every happy customer for a review by text, so fresh, steady ratings started coming in week after week instead of once a year.

Citations and NAP

We listed the business across the local directories Adelaide people use and made the name, address and phone number identical everywhere, which cleaned up the signals Google was getting.

Suburb pages

We built service-area and suburb pages for the areas they cover, so each one could rank for its own electrician and air-con searches and back up the proximity the map cares about.

On-page work

We rewrote titles, headings and page copy around the real wording people search for, added clear trade and location terms, and made the phone number tappable on every page.

Relevance signals

We tied the website, the profile and the citations together with matching wording and links, so Google could connect them and read the business as the obvious local choice.
