Local SEO Cairns · QLD 4870SEO for Cairns businesses: one coastline, two kinds of customer
Some of your customers landed at Cairns Airport this morning and are searching from a hotel near the Esplanade. Others have lived in Redlynch or Edmonton for twenty years and know every back road. They type different words and need different pages. Boltly works out which of the two crowds pays your bills, then builds your Business Profile, your pages and your reviews for that crowd first. Boltly is a Melbourne-based business with no Cairns office.

A visitor and a resident, typing into the same search box
At the 2021 Census, accommodation employed 2.9% of working Cairns residents, against 0.9% across Australia, and cafes and restaurants employed another 2.9%. That is the visitor trade showing up in the payroll. Yet hospitals employed 7.1%, more than accommodation, and those workers, like everyone else who lives here, need a dentist, a mechanic and an electrician on an ordinary Tuesday.
| Who | The visitor | The resident |
|---|---|---|
| Searching from | A hotel room, the airport, a bench on the Esplanade | Home or work, in a suburb they know well |
| Already knows | Landmarks: the Esplanade, the airport, Kuranda | Suburbs, streets and postcodes |
| Types | An activity or a dish, often with "near me" | A trade or service, plus a suburb name |
| Decides on | Photos, recent reviews, opening hours, pick-up | Service area, how to book, reviews from people nearby |
| Your page needs | Distance from the CBD and the airport, how to book from a phone | The suburbs and postcodes you cover, and what a visit involves |
Most firms lean one way. A reef trip, a car hire desk or an Esplanade cafe lives on the left-hand column; a plumber in Mount Sheridan or a physio in Smithfield lives on the right. Some get both, like a pharmacy or a dental practice in the CBD, and those need two kinds of page: one for the person who will never come back, and one for the patient who will come back every six months.

Who lives here, according to the 2021 Census
The Census counted 153,181 people in the Cairns urban centre, with a median age of 39. More than a third of homes, 36.2%, were rented, and 17.0% were flats or apartments.
Renters move, and a household that arrived in Manunda last year has no regular plumber, vet or GP yet. They search a trade plus a suburb and pick from the first few names on the map, so a resident-facing business needs its suburb in the profile and reviews that name the job and the area.
Residents also drive: 57.9% went to work by car on Census day, close to the Queensland figure of 59.5%. For them a map pin, a service area and a clear "we come to you" line matter more than any landmark.

A shop for locals in a street full of tourist results
A key cutter, a laundromat or a hairdresser near the Esplanade can find its own street buried under tour desks and dive shops whenever someone searches the area. Don't chase the visitor words. Write the profile and the main page for the people who live here: the service, the suburbs your regulars come from, parking and the hours that suit a working week. Ask regulars for reviews that name the job. A local offer in the quiet months brings residents back once the crowds thin.
Where your visitors flew in from this morning
Cairns Airport's airline page lists direct international services to Auckland (seasonal), Christchurch, Port Moresby, Hong Kong, Singapore, Nadi, Tokyo, Osaka and Bali, beside domestic flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and other cities.
A visitor who flew in from Osaka or Port Moresby often searches with no idea how far the Northern Beaches are from the city. Give the drive time from the CBD and from the airport, say whether you collect from hotels, and put prices, payment options and booking steps on one page that works on a phone.
Visitors read only recent reviews. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 74% of consumers only care about reviews written in the last three months, so a steady trickle beats a burst once a year.

The one-star review from a visitor you can't call back
A visitor has a bad day on the water, leaves one star from the airport and is gone. You can't fix it over a coffee the way you might with a local. Report it from your Business Profile only if it breaks Google's rules for Maps content, such as fake engagement, off-topic posts or harassment; a review that is harsh but genuine stays up. Then reply once, calmly, with the facts: what was booked, what happened, what you offered. The next visitor reads your reply as much as the complaint. Be wary of anyone selling review removal: if the review doesn't break those rules, there is nothing legitimate for them to remove.
Blue butterflypostcodes
Postcodes from Australia Post, 4 October 2026
Residents search by suburb, and the suburbs run from 4865 to 4879
Australia Post gives Cairns City, Parramatta Park, Edge Hill, Manunda, Earlville and Redlynch the 4870 postcode. Smithfield is 4878, Trinity Beach and Palm Cove share 4879, Edmonton is 4869, Mount Sheridan 4868 and Gordonvale 4865.
Google suggests "cairns postcode smithfield" and "cairns postcode redlynch", so people do check. If you drive to jobs, list the postcodes you cover in your service area and on your contact page, and use the Australia Post spelling. Build a separate page for an area only when you have work there worth describing, such as a run of pool fences in the 4879 beach suburbs. Covering the coast further south as well? Where we would start for four Cairns set-ups
We publish three monthly plans: Starter $500, Growth $900 and Performance $1,500. None has a setup fee or a lock-in. Here is where we would start for four common Cairns set-ups. The pricing page lists every inclusion.
| Your business | Main crowd | Where we would start | Because |
|---|---|---|---|
| A cafe or bar near the Esplanade | Visitors | Starter $500 | One address and one profile. The work is photos, menus, hours on market days and a steady flow of reviews. |
| A trade covering the beaches and the Southside | Residents | Growth $900 | Several postcodes, so the service area, service pages and job photos need building out suburb by suburb. |
| A tour, transfer or hire operator | Visitors | Growth $900 | A page per trip, pick-up details, booking from a phone and fresh reviews through the busy months. |
| A clinic with two Cairns locations | Both | Performance $1,500 | Two profiles to run, patient pages for residents and a short visitor page for walk-ins. |

What people in Cairns ask us, and ask Google
What should I look for in an SEO agency in Cairns?
Ask who will do the work, whether they have checked your rankings from your own suburbs, and whether you can leave without a penalty. Be wary of anyone who guarantees a top position, because nobody controls Google's results. Boltly is a Melbourne-based business with no Cairns office, and every plan runs month to month.
How much does local SEO cost in Cairns?
Our plans cost $500, $900 or $1,500 each month; there is no setup fee and no contract. A single Esplanade cafe usually needs less than a trade covering four postcodes. For figures across the country, read what SEO costs in Australia.
Is Cairns in Queensland?
Yes, in Far North Queensland. Cairns Regional Council runs the area from its chambers at 119-145 Spence Street, and the urban postcodes run from 4865 at Gordonvale to 4879 at Palm Cove.
Does Cairns have an international airport?
Yes. The airport's airline page lists direct flights to Auckland (seasonal), Christchurch, Port Moresby, Hong Kong, Singapore, Nadi, Tokyo, Osaka and Bali. Check schedules with the airline before quoting one.
What's Cairns postcode?
4870 covers Cairns City, Parramatta Park, Edge Hill, Manunda, Earlville and Redlynch. Smithfield is 4878, Trinity Beach and Palm Cove are 4879, Edmonton 4869, Mount Sheridan 4868 and Gordonvale 4865, according to Australia Post.
What's Cairns like to live in?
We can only give you the Census picture: a median age of 39, 36.2% of homes rented, 71.0% separate houses and a median weekly rent of $340 in 2021. The biggest employer by industry was hospitals, at 7.1% of workers.
Why does Google show booking sites instead of my tour?
Booking and directory sites rank because they have thousands of reviews and pages, and Google's AI answers lean on the same well-known sources. You can't buy your way into an AI answer. You can give Google more to work with: one page per trip with the price, pick-up points, duration and how to book from a phone, a Business Profile with the same details, and a steady run of recent reviews. Stay listed on the booking sites too; for many visitors that is where the first look happens, and your own page is where they book direct.
Is Boltly based in Cairns?
No. We're Melbourne-based and look after Cairns clients by phone and video. Google ranks your business on your address, your pages and your reviews, so our location does not affect it. Phone 0468 147 271 or write to hello@boltly.com.au.
How soon will a Cairns business see changes?
Google's SEO starter guide says some changes register within hours and others take several months. Profile repairs tend to show first, pages and reviews later. Visitor numbers rise and fall through the year, so we compare each month with the baseline from month one, not the month before.
Questions three to six are Google autocomplete suggestions for Cairns, checked 4 October 2026. The first follows the suggestion "seo agency cairns"; we added the cost, booking-site, office and timing questions.
