SEO for Chermside businesses
Chermside sits about 11 kilometres north of central Brisbane, and it's a northside shopping and transport hub: Westfield Chermside, the bus station and a long run of shops and clinics along Gympie Road. People search here with a job in mind: parking at Westfield, a restaurant that's open now, a dentist who bulk bills. Boltly puts Chermside businesses into those results with a properly set-up Google profile, a page per service and a steady run of reviews, month to month.

Renters, bus riders and hospital staff: who searches here
Chermside is a suburb of renters and working people in the City of Brisbane's Marchant and Northgate wards. At the 2021 Census it had 11,426 residents with a median age of 35, 62.6% of homes were rented and 58.7% were flats or apartments. Hospitals employed 8.2% of working residents against 5.0% across Queensland, no surprise with The Prince Charles Hospital (opened 1959 as a chest hospital) inside the suburb. And 7.4% caught a bus to work, more than four times the state share.
For a Chermside business, SEO means turning up when someone nearby searches with intent: a Google profile that says Chermside QLD 4032, hours that are right tonight, directions from Westfield or the bus station, a page for each service, and recent reviews. With 62.6% of homes rented, many households are still picking a regular dentist, barber or cafe, so a complete profile reaches them early.

From Downfall Creek to a northside hub
Chermside began as Downfall Creek, beside the road that carried traffic to the Gympie goldfield after 1867, and the name Chermside was formally adopted in 1903, after Governor Sir Herbert Chermside. In 1957 it gained what Queensland Places records as Australia's first drive-in shopping centre.
Trams reached Chermside along Gympie Road in 1947. The old road still carries the suburb's past: the former Chermside State School at 590 Gympie Road, the H.M. Wheller Garden Settlement at 930 and Vellnagel's Blacksmith Shops at 992 are all heritage sites.

Gympie Road, shop by shop
Gympie Road is Chermside's main street, and Google's suggestions for it read like a shopping list: a dentist, a barber, a clinic, a florist, a pharmacy, workwear and even a motel. People also search exact street numbers on the road, such as 956 and 621, which Google pairs with the Chermside Health Hub.
On a road this long, the street number is the landmark. Put it in your profile and on your website exactly as it appears on your door, add the nearest cross street, and say which bus stop is closest; people even search for "stop 37 38". Smaller centres such as Chermside Markets are searched by name too, so give the centre's name as well as the street address.

A bus station, not a train station
Search "Chermside station" and Google offers stationery stores and police, fire and ambulance stations first, and people really do ask whether there's a train station here. There isn't one. The suburb is served by Chermside bus station, beside Westfield Chermside between Gympie and Hamilton Roads.
Translink lists its stops as Chermside Shopping Centre interchange A to E, and people search its timetable and the buses to Suncorp Stadium and The Prince Charles Hospital. The stop beside it on Gympie Road is Translink's stop 37/38. In directions, name the station or nearest Gympie Road stop and the minutes' walk. With 7.4% of working residents already on the bus, walking directions from the interchange matter as much as parking notes.

Westfield Chermside, then and now
Westfield Chermside, the 1957 drive-in centre enlarged several times since, now holds hundreds of specialty shops, cinemas and an Apple Store on the corner of Gympie and Hamilton Roads.
If you trade inside, give your level, your nearest entrance and the car park that suits you. If you trade outside, say how far you are from the centre and whether customers can park with you instead. People ask "is Westfield Chermside open today", so hours are the first thing to get right. Our Google Business Profile guide covers hours and photos.

Customers walk to the car park instead of your shop
A centre this size creates listing problems a street shop never meets. The address on the profile is the centre's, the map pin sits in the middle of a roof, and tenants move between levels. Three fixes cover most of it.
Put the shop number in the address, then check the pin
Google's address guidelines ask for building, suite and floor details as part of the address, so add your shop number and level. Then drag the pin in the location editor to your entrance, not the middle of the roof. A store inside a centre can also ask Google to show that on its profile, which helps people searching the centre's name.
Moved within the centre? Edit, don't start again
When a tenancy changes level or moves across Gympie Road, update the existing profile's address. Opening a second listing splits your reviews and leaves an old pin sending people to an empty shop. If an old listing from a previous owner already exists, claim it and ask Google support to treat it as a duplicate.
An edit you made hasn't shown up
Google says profile changes usually appear in about 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days. Change one thing at a time, note the date, and don't keep resubmitting. Holiday trading hours are the exception worth doing early: set them a week or two before the centre's late nights begin.

Five bordering suburbs and one shared postcode
On the ABS boundaries Chermside covers 4.0 square kilometres and borders five suburbs: Aspley to the north-west, Geebung to the north-east, Wavell Heights to the south-east, Kedron to the south and Chermside West to the west.
Shoppers from all five come to Chermside, but Google weighs distance, so a Chermside address won't automatically show for someone searching in Aspley. Chermside West shares 4032 while the other four have their own postcodes, so write Chermside in full. If you travel to customers, list the suburbs you cover as a service area and give the busiest ones their own page. For another northside example, see SEO in Stafford, and for the wider city, SEO across Brisbane.
