SEO for Wynnum businesses on the edge of Moreton Bay

Wynnum sits on Moreton Bay about 19 kilometres by road east of the Brisbane CBD, with the Esplanade, the wading pool and the jetty along its foreshore. Two groups search for it: locals in its family homes, and day-trippers who drive in for the water.

Locals look for practical things close to home, such as the medical centre at Wynnum Plaza or a dentist on Bay Terrace.

Their searches are about restaurants on the water, restaurants with a view, and somewhere for coffee after the jetty. They want photos, weekend hours and directions.

The score

Settled family homes, a bay ward and a pandanus name

Seven in ten Wynnum homes are separate houses, and most are owned outright or with a mortgage. It sits in the City of Brisbane's Wynnum Manly Ward. The name is thought to come from an Aboriginal word for the pandanus, the screw pine that grows along the coast.

In practice, that means a listing that names Wynnum QLD 4178 and directions that start at the Esplanade or a station.

The foreshore

The Esplanade, the wading pool and the jetty

Wynnum's foreshore runs along the Esplanade. The saltwater wading pool went in beside the jetty in 1932, and the sand of Pandanus Beach was laid next to it in 1987. Brisbane City Council is now writing a 20-year master plan for the Wynnum, Manly and Lota foreshores, due to be finalised in early 2027.

Weekends, weekdays and bad weather

When the bay crowd and the locals want different things, and when a storm shuts the door

High tide · the weekend

One profile has to serve day-trippers and regulars

Visitors search ahead on their phones for a view, a table and today's hours; locals often avoid the foreshore when it's busiest. Give each group a page: one for the visit (the walk from the jetty, outdoor seating, weekend and school-holiday hours, photos from your tables) and one for the regulars (bookings, weekday specials, parking away from the Esplanade). Keep holiday hours current in your profile so nobody turns up to a locked door. Ask regulars for reviews on the quieter weekdays.

Low tide · the closure

A storm or a power cut closes you for a few days

Set temporary hours or mark the profile temporarily closed, never permanently closed, and post a short update saying when you expect to reopen. On reopening day, change the hours back, add a Google post that you're open again and put the same line at the top of your website. For clean-up grants, link to the official page rather than quoting amounts.

Three stations

Three stations on the Cleveland line

Wynnum is served by three Cleveland line stations: Wynnum North, Wynnum and Wynnum Central, all inside the suburb boundary. Most trains through them run on to Shorncliffe, with some to the Airport.

On Census day 4.7% of working residents took the train to work, four times the Queensland rate of 1.1%. If you're near a station, name it in your directions and say where to park for commuters dropping in on the way home.

Shops and services

Two shopping spots people search by name

Google's suggestions cluster around Wynnum Plaza and the Edith Street strip, where people also look up a chemist.

Searches name the plaza or the street as well as the type of business, so write "Wynnum Plaza" or "Edith Street" in your description, add your shop number if you're inside the plaza, and choose the category people actually search for, such as pharmacy or medical centre.

Local history

A bayside town with a proud history

Wynnum ran as its own municipality until it was taken into Greater Brisbane in 1925.

For old photos or local stories, the library on Florence Street holds the South Moreton Bay Bicentennial Historical Collection: good material for an About page or a Google post.

Which Wynnum?

Which Wynnum your listing should name

Wynnum's land boundary touches Lytton, Wynnum West, Manly West and Manly. One catch: Wynnum Plaza sits inside Wynnum West, and Australia Post lists it as its own 4178 locality, so plaza shops should copy the address on their lease.

Manly in Queensland isn't Manly in Sydney, either. See also SEO in Manly next door, SEO in Hamilton and SEO in Milton.

Who your customers are

Family houses, split between owners and renters

Houses dominate, and homes split almost evenly between mortgage holders (35.4%), renters (34.6%) and outright owners (28.3%).

Three in four residents (74.0%) were born in Australia, followed by New Zealand, England, South Africa, the Philippines and Scotland, and 88.2% speak only English at home. Professionals (25.1%) and managers (15.7%, against 12.5% statewide) lead the occupations, ahead of clerical workers (14.1%). New Zealand and England each account for 5.5% of residents, above the Queensland shares of 4.0% and 3.7%.

Wynnum questions

Bayside owners ask about suburbs, stations and reviews

How much does SEO cost for a Wynnum business?

Wynnum plans with Boltly start at $500 a month for one location, go to $900 to add Manly, Manly West and Wynnum West, and start at $1,500 for crowded categories, all month by month. There's no setup fee.

When will I see results from local SEO?

Google's SEO starter guide says changes can take effect within hours or take several months. For a Wynnum business, profile fixes and fresh reviews usually register on the map before website rankings move, and the wait depends on how many competitors you have.

Should my listing say Wynnum, Wynnum West or Manly?

Use the suburb in your address. Wynnum West and Manly are separate suburbs, and "Wynnum Manly" is the combined area and ward name, so use it in your description rather than as your suburb.

How do I get more reviews from regular customers?

Ask when they're happiest, such as when paying or collecting, and give them the short link or QR code from your Business Profile. Reply to each review so others see you're listening.

What should I post on my Google Business Profile?

New products or services, offers, events, changed hours and photos of recent work. Keep each post short, with a clear photo and a button such as Call or Book. Google hasn't said posts lift rankings, but they help customers decide.

Do I need a different page for each suburb I serve?

Only for areas you really serve, and each page needs something specific to that suburb, such as jobs you did in Manly West, directions or common questions. Thin copies with the suburb name swapped don't help and can hurt.

We signed a 12-month SEO contract and nothing has changed. What can we do?

Start with the contract: find the termination clause and any notice period. Then ask the agency in writing for an itemised list of work done, and check it against Search Console and your Google profile. If it's a standard form contract you had no real chance to negotiate, read the ACCC's guidance on unfair contract terms for small businesses before paying out the rest. Our plans run month to month for exactly this reason.
