Long-term owners who plan their trips

Camberwell is a suburb of family homes and long-term owners. The 2021 Census counted 21,965 residents with a median age of 43; 60.1% of homes were separate houses and 42.5% were owned outright.

For a Camberwell business, SEO means being found by people who plan ahead: a Google profile that says Camberwell VIC 3124, a page for each service, directions from the Junction, the station or the market car park, and reviews that show you're reliable.

Which Camberwell?

Camberwell VIC, not Camberwell in London

Camberwell shares its name with a district of south London, and London still crowds Google: "camberwell college of arts" and "camberwell arms" appear for the bare name, along with NHS dentists.

Some local names point elsewhere too. The three Camberwell schools all give Canterbury 3126 addresses, and the Rivoli, a heritage-listed 1940 cinema people use as a restaurant landmark, stands at 196 to 200 Camberwell Road, Hawthorn East. Write Camberwell VIC 3124 in full and name your exact street. Serving both sides of Burke Road? See SEO in Hawthorn.

Burke Road and the Junction

Burke Road, from the Junction to the station

Camberwell Junction is where trams 70 and 75 share a stop (stop 40). From the Riversdale Road corner, route 72 runs north up the Burke Road strip, past the stop Yarra Trams names Camberwell Shopping Centre, to its last stop at Camberwell station.

Searches follow the strip shop by shop: cafes, a bookshop, shoes and sushi, each with Burke Road added. The Fresh Food Market around the corner on Riversdale Road, a produce market since the 1930s by its own history page, draws a search of its own for opening hours. Put your street, the nearest landmark and your hours on every listing. Just one shopfront? Small business SEO in Melbourne keeps it simple.

Getting around

Five stations, three tram routes and a cross-town bus

Metro Trains gives five stations a Camberwell 3124 address: Camberwell, East Camberwell, Riversdale, Willison and Hartwell. Trams 70, 72 and 75 cross the suburb, and the 612 bus links it with Box Hill and Chadstone.

Because stations such as Riversdale, Willison and Hartwell double as locality names, customers may search by station rather than suburb. People also look up station parking and the trip in to Flinders Street. Name your nearest station and tram route in your directions, and mention parking if you have it.

Unsolicited offers

A caller says they can fix your Google ranking. Check two things first

Businesses with a long-standing listing get a steady run of calls and emails offering to fix their Google ranking. Google's own guide to hiring an SEO (updated 5 June 2026) tells owners to be wary of firms that contact them out of the blue, and of anyone who claims a "special relationship" with Google or a "priority submit". It also says no one can guarantee first place.

The first check is what they promise: if it's a ranking guarantee or a Google connection, end the call. The second is who will hold the keys afterwards. Whoever you hire, these four should stay in your name:

  • Business ProfileYou are the primary owner. An agency is added as a manager and can be removed in a minute.
  • Search ConsoleYour property. Google's guide suggests giving a new SEO read access only at first.
  • AnalyticsThe property sits in your Google account, so the history stays when the agency goes.
  • Domain nameRegistered to your business. A WHOIS lookup shows whose name is on it.

If a former agency or a previous owner still controls the profile, use Google's request ownership form. Google emails the current owner, who has three days to respond; if they don't, you may be able to claim the profile yourself.

Camberwell questions

The Sunday market, the station and Boroondara

How much does SEO cost for a Camberwell business?

A single Camberwell location is on our Starter plan, from $500 a month. Growth, from $900, adds Hawthorn East, Canterbury or Glen Iris, and Performance, from $1,500, suits competitive fields. None of them lock you in and there is no setup fee. For how SEO pricing works more broadly, see SEO costs across Australia.

What is the postcode for Camberwell VIC?

How far is Camberwell from the Melbourne CBD?

About 10 kilometres east, measured from Bourke and Swanston Streets to the middle of the ABS suburb boundary. Trains run from Camberwell station into the city, and "camberwell station to southern cross station" is one of the searches Google suggests.

What council is Camberwell in?

The City of Boroondara, whose office is at 8 Inglesby Road, Camberwell. Boroondara was formed in 1994 when the old Cities of Camberwell, Hawthorn and Kew were merged, according to the council's own thematic history.

A one-star review came from someone who was never a customer. Can I get it removed?

Sometimes. Google removes reviews that break its policies, such as fake engagement, a conflict of interest (a competitor or former staff member) or harassment, but not reviews that are simply unfair. Flag the review from your Business Profile and track it in Google's review management tool, where you can appeal if the first request is declined. Reply once, calmly and briefly, for the customers who read it later. Avoid anyone selling paid review removal: Google's policy bans offering anything in exchange for removing a negative review.
