SEO for Surfers Paradise businesses on the strip and the islands

Surfers Paradise is a strip of towers, beach and nightlife in the middle of the Gold Coast, about 70 km south-east of Brisbane's CBD in a straight line. Visitors want a restaurant with a view, a dental centre or somewhere to park near Cavill Avenue, and they pick from what their phone shows them. Boltly sets up your Google profile, pages and reviews so those searches find you.

Most of your customers are new to the area

Most people searching for a Surfers Paradise business are visiting, renting or have just moved in. The 2021 Census counted 26,412 people; more than eight in ten homes were flats or apartments, more than half were rented, and a third of all dwellings were empty on Census night.

They search on a phone, often in the moment, and pick whoever looks open, close and well reviewed. Keep your hours exact, especially late and on weekends, add real photos and a menu or price list, and if your staff speak Portuguese, Spanish or Mandarin, say so; in 2021 those were among the top languages spoken at home here after English.

Which Surfers?

A suburb of the Gold Coast, once called Elston

Surfers Paradise is on Yugambeh Country, and the City of Gold Coast's acknowledgement recognises the Yugambeh people whose Country lies within the city. The area was officially known as Elston until it was formally renamed Surfers Paradise in 1933, after Jim Cavill, who built the sixteen-bedroom Surfers Paradise Hotel in 1925, lobbied for the change.

It's a suburb of the City of Gold Coast, and Chevron Island and Isle of Capri sit inside it. Google even answers "seo surfers paradise" with "seoul surfers paradise". Write "Surfers Paradise QLD 4217" in full, add "Gold Coast" where it fits, and name the island neighbourhood if that's where you are. If you work right across the city, see SEO on the Gold Coast.

Cavill Avenue

Cavill Avenue, the Esplanade and the night markets

Cavill Avenue carries Jim Cavill's name from the beach back through the mall, with Orchid and Elkhorn Avenues running parallel. Behind them sit the holiday flats: 33.1% of the suburb's dwellings were empty on Census night 2021, against 9.3% across Queensland, and their guests search on arrival. SkyPoint sits on Level 77 of Q1, 230 metres up, according to its own site.

The Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets run every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 9pm on the Esplanade, with more than 100 stalls, and the City's events site says they have run since 1995 and operate all year round. Searches here are about now: restaurants open now, parking on Cavill Avenue, the markets tonight. Keep your late hours right on Google, especially on market nights.

When a review says there was nowhere to park. On a strip where people search for parking near Cavill Avenue before they set out, a one-line complaint about parking can cost you the next booking even if the meal was good. Answer it before anyone asks: a getting-here note on your contact page and profile with the car park you would send a friend to, the nearest tram stop and the walking time. Fill in Google's parking details and post a photo of your entrance from the street. When the review comes anyway, reply once with the practical fix.

Getting around

The tram, the 777 and the highway

G:link has five stations in the suburb, according to the operator's station list. Gold Coast Airport says the drive takes about 30 minutes, and its 777 bus links to the tram at Broadbeach South.

The Gold Coast Highway runs through the suburb, and when the Supercars street circuit goes up for the Gold Coast 500, streets close around it, so check the organiser's dates and set special hours and access notes before race weekend. In 2021, 8.4% of working residents walked to work and 3.7% took the tram, against 2.6% and 0.1% across Queensland. Searches follow the trips: people ask how far the airport is, whether the tram is free and how to ride the light rail up from Broadbeach.

If you're a short walk from a tram stop, name the station on your profile and your page.

The islands inside, and the suburbs around

Chevron Island, Isle of Capri, Cronin Island and Macintosh Island all sit inside Surfers Paradise on the map, yet Australia Post lists Chevron Island and Isle of Capri as localities of their own under 4217, which is why guests and owners search them by name.

Searches split the area up, as in "surfers paradise north postcode". Holiday-let managers and strata services should name each building, island or street they look after. For the next suburb south, see SEO in Broadbeach.

A visitor left us one star for something we don't control. Can Google remove it?

Only if it breaks Google's review policies, and disagreeing with it isn't enough. On a strip of passing visitors, some reviews are really about the weather, the queue at the lights or the parking. Flag it from your Business Profile if it is spam, off-topic, abusive or from someone with a conflict of interest, then track it in Google's Reviews Management tool. Google says evaluation usually takes several days, and you get one appeal if the first decision goes against you. If it stays up, reply once, calmly, with the facts, and keep asking every guest for a review. Be wary of paid removal services. Listings with keyword-stuffed names keep appearing above ours on the map. What can we do?

Report them, keep a record, and don't copy them. In crowded categories like tours, holiday lets and late-night services, you may see listings named after the search rather than the business, or several listings that ring the same number. On Google Maps, open the listing and use the report option for misleading business info or fraudulent activity. For ten or more, Google's Business Redressal Complaint Form takes a spreadsheet of the links. Screenshot each one with the date in case you need to report again. Stuffing your own name risks a suspension. Compete with real photos of your shopfront, recent reviews that mention what you did, and a page that matches the profile.
