What SEO means on the Burleigh strip
On the Burleigh strip, SEO means turning up for two crowds: visitors near the beach and residents in the houses further inland. The 2021 Census counted 10,572 residents with a median age of 42; 46.7% of homes were flats or apartments and 39.0% were separate houses.
Both find you through a Google profile that says Burleigh Heads QLD 4220, a page for each service, directions from the light rail or the highway bus stop, and reviews that mention the view or the walk.

Burleigh Heads or Burleigh Waters: which suburb you're in
Burleigh Waters is a separate suburb with the same 4220 postcode, and Google slips Tweed Heads into searches such as "burleigh heads dentist" and "burleigh heads postcode". People even search for a "west burleigh heads postcode", so spell out the suburb and the postcode together.
Government surveyor J.R. Warner named the headland "Burly Head" in 1840 for its massive look, and by the 1880s the spelling had drifted to Burleigh. The headland was set aside as a reserve in 1886 and gazetted as a national park in 1947, and the park is still Burleigh Head, singular. The Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre acknowledges the Kombumerri, Bullongin, Wanggeriburra, Birinburra, Mununjali and Minjungbal peoples and the wider Yugambeh language speaking group as the Traditional Custodians. For the stops further north, see SEO in Broadbeach.

James Street, the markets and the Pavilion
James Street is the shopping street of the beach end, a block back from the Gold Coast Highway and the surf club. Inland, Stockland Burleigh Heads is at 149 West Burleigh Road, and searches that start with its name are errands: the medical centre, the post office, the supermarket.
Google's suggestions for James Street cover boutiques, medical, food, the weekend markets and the Pavilion's menu. Two different searchers, two jobs: a James Street shop wants the visitor deciding where to spend an afternoon, a Stockland shop wants the resident with a list. Name your street and nearest landmark on every listing, and post market-day hours when they change.

Passenger services between Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads from 9 August 2026 (GoldlinQ)

The light rail reaches Burleigh
GoldlinQ says passenger services between Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads began on 9 August 2026, and the opening day wrapped up at Memorial Park in Burleigh Heads. Burleigh Heads is the terminus, the last of eight new stations.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads puts the trip from Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads at around 16 to 17 minutes. Translink buses are being reconfigured around it, and new bus stops are going in along West Burleigh Road and near Stockland. That matters because in 2021 only 1.9% of working residents took public transport to work, against 4.1% across Queensland: the trip has changed, so old directions are now wrong. Add your nearest station to your profile and pages.

After the works: getting walk-in trade back
Customers who learned to avoid the Gold Coast Highway while it was dug up don't drift back on their own. Show them the street as it is now: fresh photos of your entrance, parking notes on your profile that match the new layout, and the walk from the nearest station on your contact page. Post that you're open as usual and ask regulars for reviews now. Recent reviews are what tell a newcomer the place is trading. If takings dropped during construction, keep those records in case a support or claims process is ever offered.
Beach strip, creek and the suburbs around
Burleigh Heads comes in two parts: the beach strip with James Street and the headland, which ends at the mouth of Tallebudgera Creek, and an inland part along the creek and West Burleigh Road. A cafe on the esplanade and a physio near Stockland share a suburb name and very little else.
Eight suburbs border it on land, with the Coral Sea on the east. Google shows how visitors plan trips here: "how far is burleigh heads from surfers paradise", "from broadbeach" and "from gold coast airport". The answers are about 11 km to Surfers, 16 to 17 minutes by tram from Broadbeach South, and the airport at Coolangatta to the south, so a business that takes bookings from visitors should say which of those it is closest to.

We edited our Google profile and now some details or reviews are missing. What happened?
Usually the edit is waiting for review. Google says profile changes normally show within about 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days when they go to review. Check the profile for a pending or under review notice, and don't keep re-submitting the same change. Missing reviews are different: Google removes reviews its systems treat as fake, paid for or from someone with a conflict of interest, and there's no way to force those back. If a whole profile disappears from Maps, check your email for a suspension notice before changing anything else.
We are opening a shop near the light rail. How do we get our Google profile verified?
Google picks the verification methods it offers you, and for many new businesses that's a video. For a shopfront it has to be one unedited recording of at least 30 seconds, filmed live and uploaded from a phone through your profile. Show where you are (street signs, the building number, the businesses next door), your permanent sign with the same name as the profile, and something only staff can reach, such as opening the storeroom or the register. Keep other people's faces and any ID or bank numbers out of shot. If your signage isn't up yet, wait until it is.
Aside from pricing, Google's autocomplete suggested each of these for Burleigh Heads, checked 4 October 2026.
